Wow it has been a long time since I’ve posted! So sorry! My college classes were much more challenging then I had anticipated, and I have spent the last semester with my nose in a physics book. (sigh) But it’s over now!!!!! I have been itching to make some actual dolls to sell in my shop, as well as reposting some patterns for sale and getting some new free patterns posted. I’ve been M.I.A. for a while but I’m almost there! I have one more final this week and then I have a nice long break from school. I’m going to be adding some new patterns to my Etsy shop soon, and I have a couple ideas in my head for free patterns for the blog. Now that I have the time, I’m going to try to get some fun stuff done!

When I was a child my mom would but stickers from the poison control center on all the cleaners that would be considered dangerous. The stickers had a lime green face making a sick expression on them, with a thick black circle around it with the number to the poison control center on it. Funny what you remember from being a child. I always liked the stickers for some reason so I made an amigurumi Mr. Yucky. The pattern is now for sale in my Etsy shop if you would like to make an amigurumi for yourself. It's only $2.50!

Hedgehog Amigurumi Pattern

Difficulty: Easy

Materials:

Any 4ply yarn for body color

Eyelash yarn or second color of 4ply yarn for back spikes

Hook size 3.00mm

black safety eyes

black safety nose

Poly-fill

Abbreviations used in this pattern:

ch chain

sc single crochet

st stitch

sts stitchs

dec decrease a stitch (*insert hook into next st, yarn over, draw up a loop* twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.)

*repeat directions inside * as many times as indicated

R round

Rs rounds

This pattern is worked in continuous rounds. Do not join rounds; use a stitch marker to mark the end of your rounds.

Head/Body:

With body color create a slip ring, join with a sc, and then sc 6 additional sts (6 sc) (Do not tighten ring until you add the nose on round 3)

Rs 1-2 sc in each sc around

R3 inc in each sc around

Place nose in the hole created by the slip ring and pull it tight to close.

R4 sc in each sc around

R5 *inc in next sc, sc in next sc* around

R6 sc in each sc around
R7 *inc in next sc, sc in next 2 sts* around

Now is a good time to place the safety eyes.

Rs 8-17 sc in each sc around

R18 *dec, sc in next 2 sts* around

Stuff the hedgehog as you close up the body.

Rs 19-29 *1 dec, 1 sc in next sc* around

Continue to dec to close, leaving a long strand of yarn to secure the hole and finish off.

Legs: (make 4)

With body color create a slip ring and sc to join the ring, then sc in ring 6 additional times

Rs 1-2 sc in each sc around

Leave a long strand of yarn to sew the legs to body. With a small bit of poly-fill stuff the legs, then sew onto body.

Spikes:

Cut yarn into 1 inch lengths. Next, attach one 1 inch length into each sc of the back of the hedgehog the same way you would attach fringe to a blanket or scarf. Continue until you have covered the desired area.

I am so happy to have my Etsy shop back open! All patterns are for sale for the low price of only $2.50! I have had many requests for my frog pattern, and it is for sale now in my shop. I have many, many more patterns to add. This week I am planning on adding the Longhorn pattern and the ice cream cones for sure. School is keeping me very busy, so it’s been hard to find time to do anything besides homework, but I am going to try to post my hedgehog pattern for the October free pattern. I have to find time to make one up and take pictures! I also want to make some actual amigurumi to sell in my shop. So many wants and so little time. Sorry it has taken so long to get the plesiosaur pattern up! Class has been keeping me much busier than I expected. I’m going to be posting pictures soon. I haven’t been able to get much work done on the book and I really want to get the patterns up for sell. I have decided to reopen my Etsy shop and sell the patterns there. I am so sorry the plesiosaur isn’t posted yet! I have had a crazy month, but I’m trying! I haven’t had much time to spend on my blog this summer, but when it turns cooler and things start slowing down I have a ton of new features to add to the blog, and I am happy to say that this fall I am going to have another contest!

I finally got the internet hooked up at my house!!!! I haven’t been able to post much on my blog this month because I have been crazy busy with my current college classes, and getting through the interviews and paperwork for my college program starting at the end of the summer. On top of all of that, I didn’t have the internet at my house, so I had to do school work at the college or at a friend’s house, so my blog didn’t get updated. But now I have the net at home, so I will be posting much more often! The next free amigurumi pattern will be out hopefully before the 4th! All the patterns for my book are done now, but my friend who was helping me edit the book and get it together had to leave for Korea, where she will be teaching English. I am really happy for her, but my book is going to take a bit longer to finish now. That’s all that’s new with me this month, hope you will check back soon for the free plesiosaur amigurumi pattern!

Leave a length of yarn to sew the arms to the body. Stuff the arms. You may choose to sew the arms onto the body, or use safety eye to create joints so that the arms move. If you choose to make joints, place the safety eye inside the arm and push the back through the fabric 3 rows down from the top of arm. Center the joint as evenly as possible. Lay the monkey flat, where the fabric folds on the sides is where you will place the arms. Push the post through the body 2 rows down from the head. Secure the eye inside the body with washer. Sew up the top of arm with remaining length of yarn and weave in ends. Or simply sew the arms to the body.

Optional Arm Joints
For jointed arms without using a pair of safety eyes, try using a length of yarn. With a long needle sew the tops of both arms closed. Then sew the arms together through the body. This will form a kind of axis that with arms will rotate on. Sew back and forth four times to form a strong axis and then weave in ends to finish off.

Legs (make 2)
With accent color create a slip ring. Sc in ring to join. Sc 6
additional times in ring. (6)
R1 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
R2 *2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next 5 sts* twice (14)
Rs3-6 sc in each sc around (14)
When you reach the last stitch of round 6, change to main color.

Leave a length of yarn for sewing legs to the body. Stuff the legs and sew closed across the top. Sew the legs to the body around row 40 with 3 stitches between them. Weave in loose ends.

Tail
With main color create a slip ring. Sc in ring to join. Sc 6 additional times in ring. (6)

Continue to sc in each sc around until tail is 5 inches long, or desired length of tail is reached. Leave a length of yarn to sew tail to body. Do not stuff. Sew the tail to the body and weave in loose ends.

Monkey Wearing Sweater
The pattern is exactly the same for Eye Patches, Muzzle, Back
of the Ear, Front of the Ear, Legs, and Tail. Follow the pattern bellow for changes to Head/Body and Arms to create a monkey wearing a sweater. For a different look to the legs, instead of sewing them closed and then sewing them to the body, stuff them firmly and then sew them directly onto the body.

Arms (make 2)
With accent color create a slip ring. Sc in ring to join. Sc 6 additional times in ring. (6)
R1 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Rs2-6 sc in each sc around When you reach the last stitch of round 6 switch to sweater color.
Rs7-19 sc in each sc around
Attach the arms as you would in the naked monkey pattern.

Head/Body
With main color create a slip ring. Sc in ring to join. Sc 6 additional times in ring. (6)

Next week I will be posting the free pattern for June, which will be my old school monkeys pattern. It's another one of my first designs. In July I will be posting the plesiosaur. I wanted to post him next week to go along with the longneck dinosaur, but I can't find a finished plesiosaur to take pictures of! I'm so close to finishing my dolls for the book I don't want to stop working on them. I had to take a few days off from crocheting becasue my writst was starting to hurt.lol too much of a good thing I guess. Hope everyone is enjoying the summer, it's sure hot here in Texas!

New Snails Patterns for Book

I wanted to rewrite my free snail pattern and use it in my book, making it a bit bigger and adding more details like the antennae nubs and a better body shape. I am really happy with how it came out. The new pattern is much bigger, and has more personality. One reason I have always loved the snail pattern is that it’s super easy and crochets up fast for those new to crochet. The new snail is super easy, but will take longer because of the size, so I’m going to make another pattern for a small snail, the same size as the original free pattern snail, but with antennae nubs and a new body shape. So the book will have the new bigger snail pattern and a reworked small snail pattern! I’m getting close to the end of new pattern design for the book. I have 35 patterns now and have to choose 30 for the book. It’s hard! I want to include them all but I want to keep the paperback book cheap, $20.00, so I can’t add too many pages. The e-book will be $15.00.

Book Progress

I met with the graphic designer who is helping me with putting my book together a few days ago. So far the pattern designing is going really well, and I think I’ll be done with the book by the end of the month! If everything goes smoothly it should be available in both book and e-book form by the end of June! It’s going to be about 30 patterns, some are common creatures like cats, dogs, frogs, and bees, but I have come up with some strange little guys I’m calling Knottimals. They are really cute and colorful. My yarn stash has been disappearing daily, so I’m heading off to town to Hobby Lobby. =) I live way out “in the sticks” as I like to say, so making the trek to a craft store takes about an hour one way. Can’t wait to see what they have!

Hey hey all! I have gone through all of the current free patterns here on the blog and made them a bit easier to read. I just want to say thank you to everyone that has been visiting! I haven’t had my flag counter up very long, only since last Wednesday, and I’ve already had visits from 74 different counties and have had more than 7,500 page views! To say thank you I want to post another free pattern when I reach 10,000 page views. =) The patterns I have been planning on posting are: amigurumi plesiosaur, longneck dinosaur, and old school monkey. I usually try to post one new pattern a month, but if my site gets to 10,000 page views before the end of the month I will post another one for May, and a new one for June. I have decided that I am going to self-publish my amigurumi book, and I’m so excited! It will be available in e-book form and in paperback. The pattern designing is going really well. I just finished a longhorn today. My husband is a huge fan of the Texas Longhorns football team, and he has been wanting me to design him an amigurumi longhorn for a while. So far I have 20 new amigurumi patterns either complete or ready to go or at least sketched out. I am also thinking I will include a couple of the ones listed on my blog for free, but reworked a little bit to get the kinks out. I want to come up with about five more pattern ideas, so the book will have 25 new patterns and five “bonus” patterns that are available here, but will be slightly different. Some of my favorite patterns have come from designing an amigurumi for someone. For example, my frog pattern was designed back when I was in the Navy for a guy at work. Whenever he left the house he would ask his wife if she needed anything, and she would always tell him a purple frog. So he thought it would be funny to have me make one so that the next time she asked he could bring it home to her. It turned out great, and I just love the pattern. I am including it in my book, and it got me thinking, maybe someone who reads this blog might be searching for a pattern that they can’t find, and would like me to design them something. Awake Kitty

I have been busy busy working on new amigurumi designs for my book, and I am happy to say I have 9 new patterns ready to go! While I was looking through my pattern files at some of my old work, I thought it would be fun to use my Sleepy Kitty pattern to make an Awake Kitty. I thought I had enough grey yarn left to make an all grey kitty, but I was wrong! Instead of starting over I just finished it out in black, and I think it turned out kind of cute that way. If you want to make one just make all the pieces from the Sleepy Kitty pattern and sew them together like I have done in the picture.

So Long Etsy Shop

Hello Everyone! I am sorry that it has been so long since I posted anything. I have been really busy with college and time got away from me. I am going to close down my Etsy shop. It is too much work to keep up with it and school, and I have come to realize that it wasn't the money that made me happy when I sold a pattern, it was knowing that someone else liked my pattern and wanted to make it for themselves. So from now on my shop will be closed and every month I will be posting a new pattern on my blog. I would really like to start a collection of pictures of amigurumi people have made from my patterns, so if you would like to send a picture for the collection, please email it to me at shena_hollingsworth@yahoo.com I will make an announcement on my Twitter account when I post a new pattern, just in case people would like to be notified that way instead of checking back all the time. The only request that I have is that people not sell my patterns or the dolls that are made from them. If you want to sell the dolls to make money for charity, please feel free to sale them!

For my contest entry for Walk on the Wild Side I wanted to create an animal amigurumi that I had never seen before. While doing some research online I came across the Aye-Aye, a little lemur from Madagascar that is at one time the cutest and creepiest animal I have ever seen. Right now I am trying to figure out if I want to make my amigurumi life-like or cartoony. But if you want to see something interesting, look up Aye- Aye’s in Google images. They are crazy looking critters.

Sleepy Kitty Amigurumi Pattern

This is my newest pattern for sale on etsy! She is 4 inches long and snuggles nicely in the palm of your hand. I experimented with the background for the pictures. All of the comments I have been getting in my pattern give away say that my pictures need work, so here is my first attempt to make them more fun, kawaii, and interesting. Hope you like her!

Dim Bulb Amigurumi Pattern

Materials:*1 skein of Peaches and Cream 4ply yarn in yellow for bulb
*1 skein Lion Brand Cotton in Stone for screw base
*Small length of black yarn for facial details

Crochet Hook:
3.00mm

Extras:
*Stitch marker
*Poly-fill
*Yarn needle
*One pair of 15mm safety eyes

Finished Measurements:
3 ½ inches tall

Abbreviations used in this pattern:
ch chain
sc single crochet
sts stitchs
dc double sc
dec decrease a stitch (*insert hook into next st, yarn over, draw up a loop* twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.)
*repeat directions inside * as many times as indicated

A Note On Gauge: The crochet fabric needs to be tight, so if you change yarn weight, make sure you use a hook size that is at least 2 sizes smaller than the label of the yarn calls for.

Place mouth. To create mouth, tie a large knot in the end of a 4 inch length of black yearn. Thread the yarn onto yarn needle. Insert the needle into the bulb and come out between rounds 11 and 12 a stitch to the side of the left eye. Insert the needle back through the bulb on the same round one stitch to the right of the right eye. Tie a large knot on the inside of the bulb to hold the smile in place. Make sure you are stuffing the bulb as you go.

A Short Thank You

I just wanted to write a note to say thank you to everyone who is participating in my pattern give away. I am getting some awesome ideas on how to improve my shop. This week and next week I have finals so I can’t really do much along the lines of retaking pictures, but I hope to have new, better pictures in my shop soon. I also want to have a new avatar and banner made, and I am scouting for an etsy seller to make them up for me. Sweet and Sour are getting some great comments as well, and I am very happy about it. I am getting comments that people like them more then my other designs, and I have thought up a couple design ideas for more patterns like them. I have a week off school after finals so I hope to be posting new patterns soon. My free pattern for May will also be up this week, promise!

Tasty Bears Amigurumi Pattern! Sweet and Sour!

So excited! This is my newest pattern that I posted today for the first time in my etsy shop. I got the idea for them this week at Hobby Lobby when I saw the awesome yarn colors. Now my head is filled with other bears that I can make along with their little mascot friends. Sweet and Sour here are just the beginning! I also am planning on posting my free pattern for the month of May this week as well. It’s going to be one of my favorite patterns so I hope everyone will like it!

I wanted to share my work room with everyone. I am lucky enough to have an extra bedroom for nothing at all but my crocheting. It’s painted a very happy lavender color and I just love it in there. There is plenty of room on the shelves to display my finished work, and plenty of room to store my ever expanding collection of yarn. Hope you like it!

Etsy shop re-opening

It’s been a long time since my Etsy shop has been open, but I’m happy to say that this weekend I will be re-opening it! I have been hard at work re-making old patterns and polishing up the pattern files, as well as creating a few new patterns. These are most of the dolls for the patterns I am going to be releasing. There are just two missing, a frog, and another amigurumi doll. I am so excited I just can’t wait to see how they do on Etsy. I also am going to be releasing one free pattern here on my blog every time that I release a new pattern group in my shop. This month, the free pattern is one of my old favorites, the snail.
